The Fastest Route
By car, drive from Stralsund over the toll-free Rügen Bridge on the B96 to Bergen. From Bergen, take the B196 toward Göhren. Just before Göhren—while still in the forest—turn toward the Kleinbahnhof (small railway station), pass the campsite on the left, continue past the station up to Göhren, then take the first sharp left onto Wilhelmstraße and follow it to the end.
The Most Scenic Route
For a picturesque journey to Rügen, we recommend the route from Stralsund that passes through some of the island’s most beautiful avenues and historic towns. After crossing the Rügen Bridge, follow the signs to Altefähr, the first village on the island. Continue toward Garz, Rügen’s oldest town, passing idyllic fields and impressive tree-lined avenues that charm visitors in every season.
Next, arrive in Putbus, the “White Town,” known for its classical architecture and stunning palace park. From Putbus, follow the historic Bäderstraße, a road that has connected the seaside resorts for centuries. Enjoy the tranquility, the views of the water, and the typical landscapes of Rügen along the way.
There are numerous train connections that bring you conveniently to Bergen or Binz on Rügen – whether by Regional Express (RE) or ICE. From there, you can easily reach Inselhotel Rügen by local bus or taxi. Alternatively, you can also travel comfortably by FlixBus, which has a stop directly in Göhren.
For a relaxed journey with light luggage, we recommend using the DB luggage service: your suitcases are sent directly to the hotel and will be waiting in your room upon arrival.
From Binz or Bergen, a taxi can take you conveniently to Göhren.

The ferry to Rügen runs between Stahlbrode and Glewitz. It connects the mainland at Stahlbrode (near Stralsund) with the southwestern part of Rügen at Glewitz. The crossing takes approximately 15–20 minutes and is a great alternative to the Rügen Bridge, especially during peak season when the roads can be busy.
For our Scandinavian guests, the ferry from Trelleborg to Mukran (Sassnitz) is ideal. This route brings you directly to the island, allowing you to enjoy a relaxed journey without any detours.
